About the Position
PIKITUP hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and interested individuals to fill four hundred (400) General Worker positions within the Operations Department. These positions are based at various depots as determined by operational requirements.
The role of a General Worker is essential to the smooth and effective functioning of PIKITUP’s daily operations. Successful candidates will be required to provide general operational support and perform a variety of manual and support duties under the supervision of a Team Leader. The position requires individuals who are committed, responsible, and willing to contribute positively to the working environment.
General Workers play a key role in ensuring that work areas, depots, and operational sites are kept clean, safe, and functional. The work may involve physical labour and requires adherence to workplace rules, safety standards, and instructions from supervisors. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, when required.
This position is graded at Task Level 1 / A1 and offers a basic monthly salary of R10 616.38, excluding benefits. Appointment will be made in accordance with PIKITUP policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be expected to perform the following duties, which include but are not limited to:

Carrying out general labour duties such as cleaning, lifting, loading, and off-loading of materials and equipment

Assisting with day-to-day operational activities within the depot or assigned work area

Ensuring that work areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly at all times

Handling tools, machinery, and equipment safely and responsibly

Following all health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures
-
Supporting skilled workers and supervisors with operational tasks when required
-
Transporting materials or equipment within the worksite as instructed

Reporting any safety hazards, damages, or irregularities to the Team Leader
-
Attending work regularly and performing duties reliably and punctually

Carrying out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Supervisor in line with operational needs
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:

Basic literacy skills (ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions)

No formal qualification is required; however, prior experience as a general worker or in a similar role will be an added advantage

Must be physically fit and able to perform manual labour for extended periods
-
Ability to work under pressure and meet operational demands
-
Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required
-
Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors

Good communication and interpersonal skills
-
Willingness to be deployed to any PIKITUP depot as required by operations
-
Commitment to workplace discipline, punctuality, and attendance
Working Conditions
General Workers may be required to work outdoors or indoors depending on operational needs. The position may involve exposure to various weather conditions, physical activity, and the use of basic tools and equipment. Strict adherence to safety rules and procedures is required at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
